Introducing the Isle of Wight Heritage Biosphere Learning Menu

Share:

The Earth Museum proudly partners with the Isle of Wight Museums and Schools programme. Over the past five years, we have been gathering stories from the collections of 11 Island-based museums and developing learning resources that span the school curriculum.

This year, we are excited to bring all this rich content together on our new EarthMuseum Learn platform. Schools on the Island and worldwide can now explore the captivating cultural and natural heritage of this unique place, internationally recognized as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve—one of only three in England.

The Isle of Wight Heritage Biosphere Learning Menu offers over 400 museum object stories mapped onto our interactive learning world, freely accessible to all. It features a diverse range of cross-curricular activities touching on science, maths, arts, geography, history, and citizenship.

We especially enjoy sharing stories about the Anglo-Saxons, Romans, and prehistoric periods on the Island, complete with immersive sense-of-place media that truly bring the Island’s history into the classroom!

The Isle of Wight Museums and Schools programme is funded by Arts Council England and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport. It includes 11 museums across the Island: Brading Roman Villa, Carisbrooke Castle Museum, Classic Boat Museum, Dimbola Lodge Museum and Gallery, Dinosaur Isle, Isle of Wight Bus and Coach Museum, Isle of Wight Steam Railway, Museum of Island History, Newport Roman Villa, Shipwreck Centre, and Wight Aviation Museum.
